CUFF CROSS COUNTRY SKI EVENT

Many in our congregation have inquired about an outing of cross-country skiing and fellowship in January, February or March. Because it is so hard to predict when we will have sufficient snow to cross-country ski in Ryerson Woods and the Des Plaines River Trail, we have decided to start a Winter Ski Tree. The proposed plan is to have each of those interested in cross country skiing sign up and become part of a Winter Ski Tree. Then, when we have the proper snowfall, we will activate the Ski Tree network and plan to meet at the church on a Sunday afternoon about 1:30. We would cross-country ski as a group or break into groups of advanced and beginner level skiers. Of course it would not be an official CUFF event without food. Everything from wine and cheese to pancakes, waffles, hot cider or chocolate and chili are possibilities on a given Sunday.

GETTING TEED OFF

Men Of Spirit Together (M.O.S.T.) sponsors an annual afternoon of golf and food at the Vernon Hills Golf Course during July. Sign-up in the narthex to reserve a place on the tee. We play a "best ball" scramble so each "team" has a chance to impress everyone with the best par golf they have ever played. Following the golf we enjoy food and fellowship in the clubhouse. There are special prizes and lots of stories about the 40 foot putt that got away (or is that fishing). Young and old, friends and relatives are all welcome. Vernon Hills Golf Course is located north on Route 45 from Route 22/Half Day Road-just west of the tracks (turn west at the stoplight on Evergreen Drive to enter the golf course).

CHURCH PICNIC AND SOFTBALL

Each year following the 10:00 a.m. service on a Sunday in June, everyone is invited to the church picnic at the Vernon Township picnic area and softball field. Vernon Township Field #5 is located at the northeast corner of Main St. and Port Clinton-just east of the train tracks. Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, plates etc. are provided. We bring a salad or dessert to share. There are games for the kids, as well as the annual challenge softball game. In addition, the picnic shelter is across the parking lot from the Vernon Pool so swimming is always an option. There is plenty of activity for all ages.
